Today’s homes boast bigger and more elaborate master bathrooms that not only serve as a beautiful showcase, but also provide a true haven for homeowners to relax and rewind. No longer hidden behind a door and completely utilitarian, it has taken a huge step forward to become an integral part of the home. Many master baths are now part of the primary suite or master wing that includes the primary bedroom, the primary bath, a full-sized dressing room/closet, and sometimes a laundry too.
Since this total space is now more visible and certainly larger, it’s no wonder that the master bath has become a place to make a real design statement. Whether it be white neutrals or bold, bright colors you can create whatever look you might want. It can match the rest of your home’s décor, or you can absolutely go for it and design something entirely different.
Intricate tile floors, large format quartz shower walls, marble countertops, spectacular lighting fixtures including crystal chandeliers, interesting mirrors in different sizes, shapes, and finishes, and dazzling wallpaper all can help create a look you love for this personal refuge. The sky is the limit these days and anything goes if it makes you feel comfortable.
While function remains a top priority, of course, many homeowners want to experience more of a calming, spa-like atmosphere and embrace pamper-me features to indulge their senses. Instead of going somewhere to recharge their batteries they can simply retreat to their own idea of heaven. To make that happen, they are including multiple shower heads with various spray settings, towel warmers, heated floors, dual vanities with extended custom storage and built-in outlets, lighted makeup mirrors, fireplaces, televisions, and luxurious soaking tubs.
It seems safe to say that the room in the house that has changed the most in the last several years is the master bathroom. Homeowners relish these special, very personal spaces, creating bathrooms that are for far more than bathing. •
