When we launched the Welcome Home Des Moines television show in 1994, little did we realize it would be the start of everything Welcome Home for us. By the year 2001, we began publishing the Welcome Home Des Moines magazine and a few years later started airing the Welcome Home Des Moines radio show on WHO-AM.
The television show and radio show both had their long runs—15 years and 12 years respectively—but the magazine continues strong after 20 years thanks to our loyal readers and partners. We are always thrilled to get your letters, calls, and emails recognizing a special story, a delicious recipe, or help tracking down a local professional.
Over the years, we have been involved with numerous home and garden related activities and have produced many, many special sections and programs for the magazine. We have always been proud to be a part of so many excellent events and initiatives happening in our community and promote them through our Welcome Home avenues. It has been fun to work with all of these great organizations.
And in twenty years, we have made lots of changes in the format, the design and the way we get our message out. If you are going to survive in the magazine business, or in any other business for that matter, you must adjust and move with the times. We have tried to provide our clients and our readers the visual and editorial content they want and meet the high standards of quality we have always set for ourselves.
Constants in every issue have been compelling stories, striking photography, great recipes, and a connection to the people and the interests of Des Moines. A huge thank you goes to all the writers, photographers, editors, designers, and sales associates who have been part of the team over the last two decades. We are grateful to say some of them have been with us since the beginning. Welcome Home would not have been successful without all of their talents.
I have always said when I didn’t love what I was doing or wasn’t having fun anymore, then I would know it was time to be done. But after twenty years of good and bad times, ups and downs, and lots of hard work, I have to admit I still love publishing the Welcome Home Des Moines magazine. I’m still having fun and we hope we will be delivering beautiful homes and gardens and so much more to you for many years to come. •
